FOR INRS Assignments Paradigm will be either Positivist (Quantitative) or Interpretevist (Qualitative). There are many paradigms but we look at these two and Critical Realism for the module.
Critical Realist would use mixed methods (Not recommended on assignment but need to know for Summative project).
Epistemology is about the nature of knowledge - what type of knowledge are we looking for? In interpretevist studies we are looking for knowledge that is based in peoples experience and therefore we accept that we are not looking for one truth but that each person’s experience can be different. (Qualitative knowledge)
In positivist studies, we are looking for one “TRUTH” and if we did the study, every person doing the study should find exactly the same 'truth'.
